--------------------------

When I heard for first time that K-pop song that said something like 'Amoled' I was a little surprised. The word reminded me of something related with technology. Actually, AMOLED is the acronym for Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode Active, a new technology applied in ultrafine and light screens. To get devices of higher quality, cheaper and less consumption.

The fact is that Samsung took model and singer Son Dam Bi (do you remember her 토요일밤에 ToyoIl-PAME-?) in collaboration with group Afterschool to promote their latest mobile phones with this technology, releasing a single entitled AMOLED.

Yes, unbelievable but true! They wrote a song dedicated to this technology, and the most shiking is that it's having much success! Like all K-pop singles, it sounds everywhere, and the music video and ad is screened at any time to any screen in the street, shops and restaurants. The song hooked, but if you think for a while... singing the name of a technology in chorus... is something really geek!

Thinking a little, can not remember of any similar case, where something being promoted so much that becomes more famous the song than the technology or product itself. Does anyone remember any similar case? I'm sure if I ask in the streets, many people will know the song but they won't know what Amoled means...

Sunrise at Seoul

-----------------------------

Summer holidays have arrrived at Hankuk! This first month in Seoul has been quite stressful. The first few days because of the landing in a new country, new language, new customs, new schedules, new food... and later, exhaustion and lack of time came because of the ISS (International Summer School) I was doing.

Thursday was the last day of classes. After a hard week of exams, presentations and a only a few hours of rest, on Friday we had a graduation ceremony, delivering the merits and qualifications of some sample work (including our remake of a scene of the Korean film 'Somoene Special'), and musical performances (some of Korean traditional instruments, and some in the pure humor of K-pop, very funny!).

Finally, the ISS is finished. It's been an opportunity to meet people from around the world, interesting people, and cultural exchange. Many of these people are coming home, but some will stay for a whole year here, with the Korean fro the ISO (International Students Organization). A year that promises lots of things. But now it's time to enjoy a little the holidays!
